The fishermen were fishing peacefully when a crocodile suddenly emerged from the water and began moving towards the shore. Initially, the fishermen were startled by the sight, and soon enough, more villagers gathered around to assess the situation.
According to Arief Mahmud, the Head of the NTT Conservation Center (BBKSDA), the crocodile’s gender has not yet been determine. But its size of 3.6 meters made it a significant presence on the beach. The villagers, working together, managed to restrain the crocodile using nylon ropes. Once the animal was secured, they contacted local authorities and BBKSDA for further assistance in handling the situation.

Efforts to Handle and Relocate the Crocodile
After alor fisherman stumbles upon 3-meter crocodile, the BBKSDA quickly dispatched a team from Kalabahi, the capital of Alor Regency, to manage the situation. The team travel by motorboat, but they encountered difficulties due to strong winds and high waves, which prevented direct access to the village of Tude. Despite these challenges, the team continued their efforts to safely handle the crocodile.

The team carefully placed the crocodile into a four-meter-long wooden crate, measuring 50 centimeters in width, to transport it safely to a designated area. The crate provided sufficient space to contain the crocodile during its relocation.

Traditional Ceremony and Final Relocation
Once the crocodile was safely inside the crate, a traditional ceremony was perform by the village head. This ritual is a key cultural practice in the community. Marking the respectful handling and transfer of the animal. Afterward, an official handover document was signed to confirm the crocodile’s safe transfer.
The BBKSDA team move the crocodile to the Alor Resort Office for further management. The relocation was carry out to ensure the animal’s safety and to remove it from areas where it could pose a risk to local residents.
