Bagnaia Gives Up Chasing Marquez, Abandons MotoGP 2025 Title Dream
Fundacion Rapala – Francesco Bagnaia has officially conceded defeat in the 2025 MotoGP championship. With 213 points, the Ducati rider currently sits in third place, trailing behind Marc Marquez by a daunting 178-point margin. Despite the 11 races left on the calendar, Bagnaia appears realistic about his performance so far and has shifted his focus away from chasing the title.
A Different Scenario Compared to Last Season
Unlike the 2024 season, where Bagnaia still believed he had a chance against Jorge Martin, this year paints a different picture. The Italian rider has admitted that the momentum and performance he once had are no longer present. This self-awareness signals a more grounded and pragmatic approach as the season progresses.
Alex Marquez Becomes the New Benchmark
As the championship enters its second half, Bagnaia has set his sights on catching Alex Marquez instead of leading the title race. Alex currently holds second place in the standings with 261 points—48 points ahead of Bagnaia. The Ducati star has expressed that he will take the rest of the season step by step and focus on improving race by race.
Struggles Mark the First Half of the Season
So far, Bagnaia’s 2025 season has been far from ideal. Out of 12 full races, he has only claimed one victory. Additionally, he has managed one runner-up finish and five third-place podiums. These results reflect a significant drop from his previous season’s performance and further justify his decision to refocus.
Sprint Races Offer No Major Gains
Moreover, Bagnaia hasn’t found much success in sprint races either. His best results in this format have been five third-place finishes. Although consistently in the top positions, these results are insufficient to bridge the massive gap to the front-runner, Marc Marquez.
A Shift in Strategy Moving Forward
Going forward, Bagnaia seems determined to make the most of what remains of the 2025 season. While a championship win may be out of reach, his focus on competing with Alex Marquez signals a more strategic and calculated mindset. With each race offering new opportunities, Bagnaia’s fans still have plenty to look forward to.
